On November 5th 2019 a year 12 student ran a IB student vs Faculty football match. There were 15 student participants and 11 faculty participants and many other students came to watch and support. All the proceeds from the match went towards the annual trip taken to Tanzania
The Tanzania trip is an expedition taken by Year 12 students, in partnership with 'The Seeway Project', on the 10 days expedition students travel to villages assisting Tanzanian families (building: smokeless stoves and goat sheds) and local schools (building: desks and classrooms).
The soccer match lasted 1 hour with the score ending as 3:2 to the students.
Throughout the match the friendly competition amongst the students and teachers was prevalent with running jokes being yelled across the field making all participants laugh but also tense 1 on 1 interaction on the field that had on lookers captivated.
I talked to students in the crowd to ask them their thoughts.
Whist watching, Sophie Gill said
“its so fun to see all the teachers getting so into it and joining in”
After the win Rosalind commented on the match overall
“a great spirit building activity” she said.
After the win by the students I asked some of the players for comments
Josh said
“ [the match] was a great day out, I think we all played a good game”
Joaquin (coordinator of the match) seemed satisfied with the match’s outcome
“I’m glad that so many people came to support us, we really need to money for Tanzania”. He says this because each student is told they need to raise $300 in order to pay for materials used for building in schools and local communities.
The game was a huge success and brought together so many students and teachers and went toward a great cause.
