Protesting Is (Not) Useless

Updated: Jan 15, 2021

Some recent tweets –

“Carrying a sassy sign looks great on Instagram but none of that matters unless you actually organize and vote.

"Protesting is pointless because no one is listening”

Protesting is useless.

Clearly shown, in 1963 when 200,000 supporters joined the fight against racial inequality and denial of civil rights, led by Martin Luther King. This protest is now deemed “useless”.

Unfortunately, protesting is so “useless”, discrimination on race, religion, gender and ethnicity is no longer tolerated.

Gandhi’s Salt March in 1930 where thousands of people peacefully protested provided freedom and independence to millions is now deemed as “pointless” protesting. People could not and would not stand the oppression and slaughter of their people and instead “pointlessly” did something about it.

Protesting brings value and voice to the unheard and suppressed.

Due to protesting it is now illegal to rape, flock, trap and force labor upon humans you perceive as inferior to you.

Decades of suffering came to an end because of the “meaningless” act of protesting.

Today, the same adults that were warned of climate change for more than 20 years and did nothing to stop it are telling us that our protesting is useless.

Australia is burning. 14,000 tons of ice caps melt per second. Numerous species are going extinct. And they are telling us our protesting is useless.

As you are reading this, whole cities are being flooded by the rising sea levels, we can no longer afford to sit back and watch our Earth decay.

We must join the protests and be the change we aspire to see.

Protesting is not useless.
