On October 11th, BISW held their annual ‘Sports Day’; students across the school competed against each other in each of the four houses (Shenandoah, Patuxent, Chesapeake and Potomac). Years 3 to 13 displayed their vibrant house spirit at the Duke Ellington field.
The morning started off with all the students buzzing with excitement as they walked to the field.
As students took their seats, the cheerleaders kick-started the day with a great performance of their school spirit, and the first event commenced shortly after.
The sports day included events such as: the 1500-meter race, 800-meter race, 400-meter race, 200-meter race, 100-meter race and the relays (100 meters per each person), javelin, shotput, discus, triple jump, long jump and high jump.
We spoke to a range of students to hear their opinions on the success of sports day. Esmé Holmes, a year 8 student, said her favorite event was “the 100-meter race because it was short”. Sofia Podini, a student in year 10, said that her favorite activity was “The 100-meter relay because of how we collaborated on winning first place.”
I personally thought that this year’s sports day was remarkably fun and exciting as always, and it showcased all the best athletes the school holds. Congratulations to all that broke BISW history and set new records in their event. Here’s the list of names and the event:
Shot put- M Nelsen- Year 7, 800m/ Long jump- E Tindre- Year 7, Triple jump- R Meijers- Year 8, 800m- R Albolooshi- Year 8, 1500m/ triple jump- R Inderbiden- Year 9, Shot put- P Ferrari- Year 9, High jump- Leo McErlane- Year 10, Shot put- L Sawddadle- Year 10, Javelin- Jasmin Toor- Year 11, Discus- Alex Jimenez-Hope- Year 11, 800m/ 1500m/ Discus- Anthony Kramarenko- IB, 100m/ 200m- Hugo Piper- IB
Over a week later, Mr. Taylor (Head of the P.E. department) announced that Potomac had won! The house rejoiced while Shenandoah, who placed fourth was shocked- as they were the defending champions. Chesapeake placed second and behind them was Patuxent.
BISW had an amazing sports day that urged students to try new sports and have some friendly competition against their peers.
